tips to Punta Lobos Chile

Fisrt thing before buy the ticket you really need be sure if is a good swell and the wind is ok.

Punta de Lobos is around 35 west on the map.So, is easy when you check to see where it is.

The best swell is straight from the south.Building up at Patagonia.

If is around 12 feet and more than 15 sec , it is already solid out there.

Couple 20 feet waves and some times bigger sets.

Normally swells come with south wind.Must of the time light early morning and get stronger at afternoon.

South wind comes from to peak not disturbing the wave at all.

Easy take off but must of the time hard to make the wave all the way.Cause drives to fast as a point break always is.

From Santiago to there by car takes 3,5 hours.

Need some attention to leave Santiago to south.DIrection San antonio, but some confusion roads to take.After that you need take more care when you leave the free way to another 2,5 hours on small roads.

When you see Pichilemu(city where Punta Lobos is) down the hill is a nice view.

This was a funny day.I met the journalist at the harbor.Took one of the to the water to explain how works the jet and why we need it.

Waves was fun and i had some.drove by the waves with him. He went for a "pluf" while a surfed and didn' t know you need to connect the key to start and the current took him far away.

I needed to paddle about 4 miles to reach him.

The photographer was another funny story.I took him by the waves and the way back wasn' t enough water to drive.To many rocks and sea plants. So i walked and pushed the pwc .(pic above).

End of the day here at Pico Alto.
Solid 18 feet waves.
Just watched the final.Great battle between Carlos Burle and Greg Long.
I was sad about my lost but just saw my mate Joao de Macedo and told me how perfect was my "plangame".2 fast waves and one bomb thats double your points.
well, felt on the bomb.
Don' t think i will do any contest again in my life.
To many already in the past wqs/wt/EPSA....over it..go surf big waves for fun no stressing!!!

starting the weekend...

Friday 5am left from where my family are stay now in Caminha, north of Portugal and border with Spain.Only Minho river separate both countries.

Got in Coruña to check la Toxica.This nice left slab   (    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmYKWVZhPcY     ).     But swell was mixed and maybe a bit bigger.

As i broke almost 10 boards already in that place and wasn' t really square open barrels i decided to do a litle tour at the european pro jr at a close beach from where i was.20 min south,Razo beach.

Sw all my friends around..Richard Marsh, Nik Beven, Simon Young and had been with the judges in  a couple heats.

Before i left,i stoped by one of many beachbreaks  they have on that area and had  fun!Wedges left that i will be coming another day of shore, for sure!

woke up 5am yesterday...drove up north to Coruña trying to sneak on slab ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmYKWVZhPcY ), but swell was mixed and finished at jr european contest with all kids, Dog arsh, Nik Beven,..And judging one or 2 heats...good fun!!!

Viana do Castelo high level surf seminary

This week during the cup of Portugal i had the pleasure to participate of a important seminary for the future of surf in north of Portugal.

They just build one of the biggest training structure for surf in the world at Cabedelo beach.

I was invite to talk about how important are the training for surfers(and after the seminary the play one of my videos at Irland if that crazy wipeout : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aa9_C_qA3ZA).

And i said a lot about how often are the waves around this area getting swells from many diferents directions.

Many young kids listening too, and for sure, all that i said was more for than.Cause they are the future of this area and the ones in  a couples years moving surf forward.

First time i went down to Ericeira was 1997.

Back on those days was a quite litle village.

Still not as much building as today and surf ,well, was all about surf.

Now imagine when surfer like Tiago Oliveira arrived there(and all his friends and local,Migueis,Nik,Zes...).

Long long time ago.Way before surf gives the money that gives in this days.

Money, looks like is always about money.

I don' t have another answer if there is not money.

Cause, how come a mayor of a surf city could do what he is doing with a symbol of a his own surf city?

Tiago Olieira yes, is a symbol of Ericeira.People knows him everywhere in the world.He is been talking about Ericeira way before the actually mayor and doing more good marketing for the city than even Portuguese surf star Tiago Pires.

The trophy he gets for this: many cops breaking his place to build new shops and another surfcamp?

Let ' s see who is the man name behind this when all will be ready in a couple months.

Who will have the balls to ruin a local legend and put his name in his place.

I , for sure, will be the first to say : this is the person or the company that kills all about surf!I mean: traditon!Culture!Friendship!

Chien errant funny storys

Met my surfclub surfing at Viana do Castelo.Didn`t know but they are my club in Galicia..funny..Nice peoples.Good vibes see and travel with the groms.got in their van and came to watch the Biarritz Womens pro..This is close friend Coco HO.third place finisher.great surfer, great family.they have the surf in the vain!

This was a Nike team dinner.i am with than cause after sleep with Joao de Sonis ( my old house up at Côte des basgues) , i was going to sleep at Betania and Philipe home.(and he works for Nike).

He told me such a funny story too.He was at Cers getting ready one injury, best place to do that around, even Ronaldo went there).

 One night he got another guy on the room, tipical Morrocan guy and soon as he got in the room he made one stick to smoke.he told hin: man, the nurses never knock the door.
After a coiple minutes the guy was still smoke one of than got inside and he put the stick on his pants.
She gave a litle shit and left.
His pants start to get fire and he was on tipical Morrocan speaking french : ¨mais putin, mon jooging fait chier¨
They got to go see the director and he ask Philipe if he smoke.Before his answer the guy said: Oh , il fumme memme pas celui la..
and you mister?
Moi, je ne fume pas dit tout moi et quand je fume, je fume dans mon coin..
After a couples days he was out, but berofe that one night Philipe was checking the waves outiside , cause the Cers is by Capbreton front beach view and the guy came to smoke one stick and close the thick door.
Booth stuck outside below 2 celcius, no one around.
Philipe went to call the up room with the guy sticking him with the belt and 30 m fall under him.
One broke guy saw him and thought he felt form the top room...hauhauahua

This is funny.Alex Laurel, friend and photographer invite me to dinner and wath ¨la prise bastille¨ fireworks.i came by bike cause http://www.hitchhikers.org ( not this one but i just check this one to goback home), was my way o get in France, so no car.

In my way back to Joao s house got the rain in my face..

Now i am in anglet trying to leave.

Just did one footing yesterday checking the only thing one married guy can do: see all this chicks on the beach on bikini..

How i will goback, don t know yet..
